Masjid, School, Education
Since its founding by Hamza Yusuf in 1996, Zaytuna has been attempting to address these issues through a variety of educational programs. Zaytuna’s vision has always been to create a lasting institution of higher learning. Zaytuna College will function at a level comparable to the best of religious seminaries and general institutions of higher education in the United States. We have carefully designed a rigorous curriculum in Islamic Studies and Arabic, as well as in the humanities and social sciences, so our students can confidently navigate the cultural, political, and intellectual currents that are shaping our world. We are also seeking accreditation from the most demanding accrediting bodies in the United States, as well as recognition from major educational institutions in the Muslim world, such as Egypt’s al-Azhar University.
Brick by Brick Campaign: Zaytuna College has the opportunity to purchase a campus in Berkeley, California, that would root America’s first Muslim liberal arts college in one of our nation’s intellectual centers. Help us fulfill a long-standing dream by dedicating bricks in support of the future of Zaytuna College.

The Cambridge Muslim Community, a diverse body of students and others who live or study in Cambridge, has long felt that its existing facility at Mawson Road is unsuitable. The relocated facility will be dedicated to the spiritual and social welfare of the city’s estimated six thousand Muslims, including many visiting students, but will also serve as a cultural bridge fostering greater understanding between communities. It will have a strong educational component, providing an infrastructure and support for learning and research.
Reflecting Islam’s contribution to contemporary debates over sustainability, the mosque will incorporate significant design features which will minimise carbon emission and emphasise the role of faith in promoting responsible management of the earth’s resources.

ZamZam Academy was established in 2003 to help disseminate knowledge of the Islamic Sciences (such as Aqeedah, Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, Tafseer, and Hadith) online. ZamZam Academy hopes to attract bright students who want to improve themselves and their communities by learning the Islamic Sciences and implementing them practically in their lives. The Site is run by Shaykh Abdur-Rahman ibn Yusuf, who was born and raised in London, studied in England, India, South Africa, and Syria. After memorizing the Holy Qur’ān, he continued his education, earning a BA in Islamic Studies from the University of Johannesburg, and graduated from Darul Uloom in Bury, England, with a degree and formal authorization in the Islamic Sciences, and specialized in legal judgment (iftā’) at Mazahir Uloom Saharanpur, India. This was followed by a Masters in Islamic Studied from SOAS (University of London).
He presently serves as imam of a London mosque and continues to work on scholarly publications through White Thread Press (www.whitethredpress.com) while pursuing research for his PHD.

The aim of Shafiifiqh.com, a part of the Shafi’i Institute, is to revive and support the Sunni Islamic jurisprudence of the guild (madhhab) of Imam Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi’i (May Allah have mercy upon him and be please with him). This support includes, but is not limited to, answering the questions and/or doubts that followers of the Shafi’i school may have in respect to Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh). Shafiifiqh.com was created to help fill the void of Sunni (traditional) knowledge in western languages.

The Abdullah Quilliam Heritage Centre Plans
William Henry Quilliam, a local Liverpool solicitor and resident embraced Islam in 1887 (aged 31), after returning from a visit to Morocco, and took on the name Abdullah. After embracing Islam, Quilliam began a campaign of Dawah, which in the circumstances of Victorian England, has to be described as the most effective in the UK to date. He became an Alim, an Imam and the most passionate advocate of Islam in the Western world. In 1894 Sultan Abdul Hamid ll, the last Ottoman Caliph, appointed him Sheikh-ul-Islam of the British Isles. The Emir of Afghanistan recognised him as the Sheikh of Muslims in Britain. He was also appointed as the Persian Vice Counsel to Liverpool by the Shah.
Quilliam’s dawah led to around 600 people in the UK embracing Islam, many of them very educated and prominent individuals in British Society, as well as ordinary men and women. His efforts also led to the first Japanese man embracing Islam.
The AQS has exciting plans and projects that it wishes to carry out in the new Heritage Centre and School. The AQS want to restore the original Mosque for use and restore its features. We will create a visitor centre where Muslims and non- Muslims can come to see this historic site and learn about Islam and Muslim history in the UK and Europe.

The Cambridge Islamic Sciences Seminars Series gives an introduction to the various Islamic Sciences in a scholarly and academic setting. The motivation for the seminars is based on the following Ahadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, God will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and (even) the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man or woman. The superiority of the learned over the devout is like that of the moon, on the night when it is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets, and the Prophets leave (no monetary inheritance), they leave only knowledge, and he who takes it takes an abundant portion”. [Abu Dawood]
